Saturday: a class, lunch at Macaroni Grill, another champagne party & the Sci-Fi masquerade

Saturday was lovely. I got dressed leisurely, went to the only class I attended, had lots of fun in my bustle skirt and top hat, took lots of pics, ate a very late lunch at the Macaroni Grill (I didn't get lost!!), took more pics, chatted with friends, pawed Katherine's wardrobe, champagne and ate left-over baklava, changed into comfy Regency, watched the Sci-Fi Masquerade and went to bed early. Well I tried anyway. It was great!

Still tired but it's getting better... My room is still trashed and my sewing machine still busted but I’ve been running around doing things for friends, family and church and so haven't gotten to it yet. And taking naps, which I never do normally. Proof I really am tired and not just a whimp. :>

Tonight is the Harvest Party at church. Originally I wasn’t going to go, just help with the set up, but the lady in charge heard I was good at the cake walk and she needed someone for that so she asked me. I decided I really didn't want to hang out at the house (we don't give out candy or turn on lights but the kids knock on the door anyway and it stresses me out) so I said yes. So this will be my 4th cake walk in a row. Yay. At least I get to dress up.

I'm doing Regency since it's my current favorite and it's comfy and cool. So I'll be Marianne Dashwood – at least most people will know who that is. I can't decide if I want to do the embroidered silk federal gown or the sparkly dress that goes under the Bee Robe. The train is shorter on the sparkly frock and it fits better (so less falling off the shoulders during the evening) but I don't know that I'm in the mood for sparkle and diadems. Simple white seems more Marianne to me…

So I will let you decide for me:

The Victorian corset is finished - yay! I've replaced the boning and lacing so it's all comfy now. The gaps in the back seem to have shrunk since I last tried it on. Normally that would make me happy but I do want this to fit when I get to CC! Umm...

While I had the corset on I tried on the Fire and it all looks good. Or will if I can leave off the potato chips between now and CC. :> B and I have finalized the beading schemes so that is now in her court. We also decided it needed a belt so I have some painting and gluing to do now. No big.

I think I have finally figured out what I'm wearing, a good thing no? I've officially dropped the bustle outfit. This makes me incredibly sad as I had my heart set on it (particularly after POTO) and have practically all the bits and pieces. But to try and pull it off this month, from the underwear up and in a style I've never done before no less, was madness. Not normal Jenny-Rose costuming madness but over-the-top, padded-cell madness. That will be the first thing I work on when I get back though as I'm determined to have it finished in 2007. I'll find an event to wear it to someday. :>

I have decided that I need another new-to-me costume though and am quite taken with the idea of a new 1780s outfit. You know, something a little over the top for normal RCHS events. At most I will have to teak a pattern so it's just a matter of construction, not toileing. :>

I have tons of pink taffeta left over from the Cynthia gown that would be perfect for the zone front I adore from the Scarlet Pimpernel musical. I may not get to the shark-tooth trim before CC but I can always add that later, perhaps in green. *grin* I'm trying to decide if I want a fancy zone-front ruffled jacket or to recreate the full zone-front dress. It's pretty much the same pattern wise, just a longer skirt. Any thoughts? :>

So that is 3 different corsets, one bum roll and 4 pairs of shoes - not bad considering my original plan was much more! :> Dropping the bustle does make cramming into the 2 allotted suitcases an easier proposition.

I had planned on doing a 1940s something for Thursday (found the cutest dress at Ross that just needs the right accessories) but Dad messed up my flight so that I'm flying into SD Thursday morning. I'm probably not going to be up to doing a 1940s hair style that morning, it would only look like crap by the time I got to LA anyway. The Federal is at least an easy hair style and super comfy and cool. Plus you guys haven't seen it. :> I'm thinking it might be nice to wear later on Sunday too, if I get tired of the chemise gown (not sure how I will like wearing that). Yay – I have a plan!

A very nice day... spent most of working on my eyelets. It isn't everyday I'm in the mood to work on eyelets so I thought I'd take advantage. So despite a very unwelcome headache the score is 22 eyelets down, 4 to go!

I laced-up for the first time a few minutes ago and am very pleased. The top (where the straps lace) needs to be trimmed but other than that I'm happy. The slight alterations I made seem to be just right. Adding more eyelets so the lacing is all the way down the back feels good, much more lower lumbar support that way... not sure how comfortable they will be to drive in however. Cars are SO not made for corset wearing!

I also updated the RCHS website with some very over due photos. Dennis took some nice pics of me dancing in my Bee gown in Dec - yay dress-in-action shots! *sigh* Is it vain to say 'wow my hair looked GOOD that night'?! *wink* Overall Federalist is just a good style for me, besides being very fun to dance in. I really need to wear it more often... *evil grin*

Wow this has been a crazy week! Excuse my silence here and lack of comments to your posts - my you guys have been busy!

Thanks to some late hours and a few cheats I managed to finish my Federalist gown and B's apron in time for the tea yesterday. The gown ended up too big just about everywhere but really what can one expect from a cursed project? :P It did turn out to be quite pretty and very fun to wear. I definitely need more pure silk gowns in my future!

B's apron was definitely a quick and dirty job but you got the effect. I copied one of the aprons in S&S quite literally the morning of the tea. The apron looked better from far away but it did make B's outfit. I'll sit down and redo it before I pack it away. It will look much better with some hand stitching and a hem. :>

The rest of the pics can be found here. It's not linked up on my site yet (I've got a bunch of stuff to do today) but you get to see because you are special. :> I've linked to some videos there too. I've also posted a cute kitty video and one of my sewing space on my youtube page if you want to take a peek.

The tea was fun - I really wish we could do more Federalist period events I love wearing that style! I got lots of compliments on my frocks (I did the fashion display window with my Bee ensemble too) and what I think is a very serious offer to do a commission. I'm thinking about it, although I'm not entirely sure I what to go there. I've always said I want to to keep this a hobby. I just don't think sewing for others would be as much fun. She specifically wanted a Regency gown though and those aren't too bad. I've made a just few this summer. :> Money (for CC perhaps?) is always a good thing though. If she's willing to pay my price I just might go for it.

an end!

It's done!!! The embroidery on my Federalist gown is finally finished!! *happy butt wiggle*

I am so ready for this project to be over!

Now I just need to put the dress together for Saturday.
jennylafleur: (costume bother)

Proof I have actually been sewing… just not posting. :P The long promised pocket pics. Haven’t gotten much more done on this since the pics were taken. Been spending my embroidery time on the Federalist gown. *moo* Oh and what is left of the Greensleeves frock. *sniff*

I worked on the Federalist gown this weekend. I put the sleeves in slightly off and I’m trying to decide if it bothers me enough to take them out and redo them. *ponders* Still working on the embroidery but it’s almost done. At least the top part I have to get done before I can put the skirts together.

Yesterday I slept wrong and ended up with a pinched nerve in my shoulder blade area. Needless to say I did not have a stellar day and felt like doing nothing all day. I did manage to finish the pleating (only did each side about 4 times - kept doing it backwards) and attached the skirt on my red print English gown. Why I put myself through the hassle just for the tiny little pleats I don't know. Proof once again that I need professional help I guess. A hem, sleeves and some hooks and eyes and I can wear it to the event tomorrow. Don’t know if I’ll get to it or not. Just not feeling motivated about it, can you tell?

I’m feeling much better today. One night’s sleep to whack my shoulder out and one night’s sleep to put it back. The question that comes to mind is “why”. *shakes head*
