finally back to the quilted petticoat!
Oct. 5th, 2006 09:46 pmGood grief this week has been insane! Ack - my life is not supposed to be this crazy until the holiday season hits.
It's all been good though, and I've managed to stretch out my birthday to a full 5 days of celebrating. That has to be a record or something. :> You’ all already know about my main gift, registration for CC (specking of I should call them to see if I got in). other sewing related loot includes a travel carrying case for my sewing machine (in case I ever actually get to quilting fellowship again!) and reprint of the 1611 King James Bible (which calls for a pretty embroidered cover) and something else which I have forgotten. And of course lots of cards and good wishes from friends (thanks Jenni, it arrived right on time!).
Tuesday I went to Mary Doering's lecture at Sully, which was excellent. Between traffic and getting lost once we ended up almost an hour late but it was still well worth the effort to attend. After a slide show and basic overview of the period, Mary began pulling things off racks and holding them up for us to see, noting details and telling stories. She even passed things around for us to look at (but not touch of course). She had things from the late 1780s to the 1820s, all of which were wonderful to look at.
It's funny, I feel like just examining those few dresses (in my favorite style) was more helpful than all the research I've done in books and online. I suddenly get it, or at least I feel like I finally do. We'll find out the next time I go to make a frock. :>
After all the running around and business I was feeling a little run-down so I decided to take a “personal day” today. I stayed up late last night watching movies, slept in super late, spend the afternoon re-marking and pinning my quilted petticoat and went out to dinner with a friend. A very nice day indeed!
This weekend we are off to Williamsburg, where it is supposed to rain the whole time. Oh well, a stop at Trellis is planned so it shall be worth it anyway! :>
