B's Healer robes
Oct. 1st, 2006 10:37 amI had every intention of sewing all day yesterday but somehow I ended up sorting my ribbons & zippers and helping B work on her Halloween costume instead. How do these things happen?
I did manage to cut out, mark and pin the darts on the red toile sleeve. I’m going to see if I can’t get that sleeve attached before the day is out but with church, birthday celebrations and other amusements I’m not sure it will happen.
B’s costume is coming along nicely though. She is making (with only my assistance) Healer robes from Harry Potter, on which she is going to embroider “bio-magical engineering department” and the crossed wand motif of St. Mungos on the front. (she is a bio-medical student – get it?) So she bought some obnoxiously lime green linen/rayon and we are working on altering a coat pattern to approximate the school robes in GoF. I think she’s going to wear normal jeans and what not underneath but her Gryiffindor scarf should be a prominent accessory. Isn’t she cute?!
I have created a monster though! There was a time when B would have just gone through the pattern book, picked out a wizard robe pattern and made it. Now we have to go online to research the movie costumes, look through all the patterns to decide what to use as a base, then toile and alter until the result is a well fitted approximation of the film version. It’s my own fault I know – I’ve spoiled her for life! :>
