I bought new beads for the headdress on the way home from church yesterday. They are a soft, pearlescent gold type color. I got the Dylon dye for the Eowyn silk while I was out too. I wiped out Jo-Ann's supply of olive green so hopefully I have enough. {crossing fingers}

Spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening working on the headdress. The main part of it is done. I need to add some reinforcing wire and figure out the flowers on the sides (Miss C's diagrams were very sketchy on those). Looks pretty good I think:

The zig-zag bar is not as neat as I'd like but that is because of the beads. The beads I bought, while pretty, are not very regularly sized. Man! I'm still trying to decide if I want to add the row of short dangles. Not sure I like those. The bottom swag came out too long so I'll have to shorten it a bit. I must have miss-counted.

Oh yes and my sister wants one now. That was predicable!

I worked on the Arwen headdress a bit tonight. I ended up scrapping the part I had started before and beginning afresh. I had the brilliant idea of beading with wire but it turned out to be a mess. Now if I had 12 hands it might have worked just fine...

I went back to the old thread (reinforced with wire) concept tonight, nylon invisible thread that is. I got far enough in the process to discover I don't like the bi-colored bead thing. It looks goofy, don't you think?

{sigh} This is going to be one of THOSE projects. Still if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

Speaking of sewing,

I have one current project, that being the Eowyn gown. I have an everyday skirt that should have been hemmed two weeks ago but that's it.

Oh I take that back... I am in the midst of working on a replica of Arwen's beaded headdress from FOTR. [livejournal.com profile] elegant_musings was kind enough to let me preview her instructions on how to make the headdress so it’s just been a matter of putting it together. I'm making it out of tortoise shell colored beads to go with the Eowyn gown. Not exactly what Eowyn wore in the film but it's still Middle Earth and that close enough for me! :-> I need to get back to that project…

In a few weeks I'll be starting on Bridget's (my sis) Ren Faire outfit. We are going for "Elvish inspired" for her. I want to get Eowyn well under way before I begin on hers though. At least to the handwork stage. Still need to work on that dratted collar and then wait for the silk (lining) to arrive. Next step is cutting the fashion fabric...exciting!
