jennylafleur: (costume bother)

i hate my life

I think I just screwed my dress. As in I'll have to trash it. I was trying to fix an issue on the bodice and managed to cut the fabric far beyond the seam allowance in a way that is unrepairable.

I want to cry.

Not that I was liking the dress anyway. I kept telling myself it was okay and the fit and other issues didn't really bother me but really you know what - it does. I do have enough fabric to remake the bodice but I was going to save it until I could re-make the bodice better, not for a second half-assed version (which is all I have time for this week). I'm not sure I can deal with this frock anymore at the moment either.

It's moments like this I hate costuming. Why do I do these things to myself!!!!

::hugs:: Mine is uh...well...umm...yeah. So don't worry! You are not alone!

Doh! Sorry about the bodice. Mom constantly tells me I need a less-stressful hobby - I think it's pretty universal for all of us. :(

:( *hugs*
When I was making the Regency shirt I tore about 5" into the body of it. Guess we all have those stories, not that it helps in the heat of it.
Punch a pillow and have some tea? Loves.

I'm so sorry!

Maybe put the skirt on straps and make a spencer to wear over it? You can do a simple one and make the good version of the bodice later.

So frustrating...

I actually think is a pretty good idea! You've got the fabric and the plan for the spencer and were planning on wearing it with the gown anyway...

*big hugs* I've been there and know what an awful feeling it is. You will look fabulous whatever you wear.

I say if you feel like you need to cry, go for it. Things might look better once you've released the built up tension.

*hugs* sorry it's put you in that "i hate costuming" place...that place stinks! I've been there many times before.

But, you are fabulously talented which is why you continue with this hobby and I think most of the time it pays off.

You'll get it figured out...now take a deep breath!

hugs your way. Been there done that. I often ask myself that same question...(My husband has a few different answers for that question.)

Just breathe and move onto something you'd love to do, when you feel up to it.

More hugs!

So sorry girl, not fun! I feel your pain, I was working with evil sleeves tonight: they were horrible, but 'unrepairable' is WAY not fun, I'm sorry!

I like Katherine's idea of straps under a spencer, and then re-do the bodice later: we won't know ;)

Ugh, I'm so sorry!

nooooo. But trying to do a Pollyanna - at least you weren't happy with it AND cut into it. Not much of a consolation. I'd be shoving that dress in the wardrobe to teach it a lesson!

Hugs. You have my sympathies.

Definitely stuff it in a corner for it to ponder the error of its ways. It will give you a break from it and perhaps when you come back to it you will be able to see how you can salvedge it?

Ugh!!!
I hate those moments of realisation when you go all cold and just want to press cmd+z to make it all go away...

Maybe it'll look better after you've given it some time to take out your anger?

[identity profile] mlsdesigns.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Just put it in a dark corner and forget about it till you feel better!

[identity profile] suededsilk.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Argh! That kind of thing is awful. I'm sorry! :(

[identity profile] bauhausfrau.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so sorry hon! Can you just recut that one part of the bodice and salvage it that way? I think Katherine's idea about just wearing a spencer is a good one too. Hang in there and feel free to call if you need an ear.

You and I both know that you come up with your best and most interesting ideas when you are forced to Improvise, Adapt, Modify and Overcome. Can't wait to see how you are more than a conquerer over this!

My advice for the naughty frock is to put it in a box, then put that box in another box and then SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!

Love and Kisses!
