Regency bonnet bites the dust

In the immortal words of [livejournal.com profile] laurenmonkey, my Regency bonnet is made of fail. After two tries I give up. First try looked like a Dr Seuss hat, second time a tacky golfer's cap. Makes the disappointment that I didn't get into Mela's S&S hat class (the ONE class I really, really wanted) all the more crushing because I obliviously can't do this by myself. *bangs head on desk in frustration*

So now I'm trying to decide if pouting for a while will help or if I should just jump into the fray and work on something else. Right now I hate everything I'm working on and want to throw my machine, scissors and bright ideas across the room.

Moo I say - MOO!

Sadness! Do you want me to bring my made-by-Mela's-method hat to Costume College to show you how I did it?

*whimpers* Yes please.

I always endorse a healthy bout of moping after a project goes terribly wrong. That explains why my Gala dress still doesn't have a skirt... ;o)

Well I've played computer games, had Subway for dinner and watched a fluffy happy movie (Last Holiday) - does that count?

::hugs:: I have been in that level of fail many many times. Scissors and ideas are normally pretty okay to throw across the room (as long as no living thing is in the way) but machines tend to leave holes in walls and you never find all those lil metal pieces....and then there is that burnt rubber + metal smell that never quite leaves your nostrils for a few days...

Work on something else. Even if it's something simple, just work on something else.

Ummm... good point. Besides I would ding the wood floors. That is the fact that really held me back. :P

*big hugses* Bonnets can be soooo evil. Just take a deep breath, put on some relaxing music and work on your stunning pearl dress.

Thank you for the hugs, I needed them! That sounds good... I think some Mozart and a glass of wine is the order of the evening.

Oh noes! I was getting up my courage to work on mine (heh. seems we're playing hopscotch with projects).
All of the stuff I've seen that you have made is gorgeous! Don't worry- one stinky little bonnet can't ruin your awesomeness.

We don't seem to be doing this in an encouraging fashion do we?! good luck on your bonnet! Perhaps I should work on my shift tonight then!

Thanks, I needed to hear that. :P

Some projects are just cursed. Maybe if you put it away, later you'll get inspiration to try it a new way. Your millinery skills are still awesome, regardless--I was really impressed by your hat the other day!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm still a beginer, so if I don't get lucky I'm screwed. Thanks! I really love that hat too. See it worked last time! :P

Poo on uncooperative projects. Definitely calls for a pink drink and a distraction of some sort. It's so frustrating when something doesn't come out as hoped. I'm sure someone who is taking Mela's class or has had it in the past will pass along words of wisdom. You'll be making pretty Regency hats in no time. Bet you have one done before the end of CC! :)

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I hope so, I really do want a Regency bonnet someday!

[identity profile] jennil.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you didn't get the bonnet class! I know this doesn't help you get a bonnet made in time for CC, but I vote that we meet up sometime post-bonnet class and I will share with you everything that I learned, and copy my notes for you! I'll trade you that, for a re-training on the pearl knotting tool thing, since I was trying to remember how to do that the other day and my poor brain seems to have lost that information in the shuffle, somehow!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds wonderful! And no problem with the pearl knotting, Aubry wanted a refresher too so I'm already bring stuff. We'll have to have a little private class session at some point. :>

I'm sorry, but I can't let this one go. Are there any other things that you "obliviously" can't do (check spelling on that one!).
All in love,
Moi
