Aubry's visit: saturday: tea

Saturday morning dawned and it was SO hard to get out of bed! [livejournal.com profile] sadievale, [livejournal.com profile] girliegirl32786 and I left the house right on time, a miracle considering we had to pack over night bags, iron, do hair, do make-up, arrange roses and make mock Devonshire cream before we left. We grabbed some lunch on our way out of town and started the journey to the Farm.

It took about 2 hours and a half a tank of gas, thanks to a bit of traffic on I95 and a few grannies on the 2 lane roads. Unfortunately Aubry got car sick on the way up, I felt so bad for her. We discovered that we were all prone to motion sickness so we were all a little queasy and more than ready to get out of the car when we arrived! We walked in the house to found ourselves in the midst of stays, stockings and wigs as everyone was getting dressed. It was pretty funny.

We were the last to arrive so we were the last ones to finish dressing, poor Stephanie having to sew herself into her frock. With [livejournal.com profile] jehanni's help we managed to get ourselves all prettified though and made our way to the tea room.

It was lovely, held in the section of the house that had been built in 1750. The walls were a pale shell pink almost the exact color of my chemise gown, all the trimming in white. The table was set charmingly, and the food all looked amazing. I finally got a chance to meet and say hello everyone properly. As always it was good to see [livejournal.com profile] bauhausfrau, [livejournal.com profile] jehanni, and [livejournal.com profile] padawansguide and it was lovely to meet [livejournal.com profile] madamekat, [livejournal.com profile] marcine, [livejournal.com profile] viennabelle and [livejournal.com profile] angldst for the first time.

The tea was fun and the food tasted as wonderful as it looked. I'd gotten rather warm getting dressed and had a headache coming on so drinking hot tea and champagne probably wasn’t the smartest thing but it all tasted so good! (Luckily some drugs and sitting still for a while and I was feeling better by the time we went outside.)

After tea we took pics first inside and then out. I got my first real look of the farm and the house and wow. It was brutally hot out but not unbearably humid and the grounds were so lovely. Everything smelled fresh and summery. I had such fun walking around talking pics!

But finally the temptation of the cool water in the pool was too much and we all stripped out of our costumes, donned cute bathing suits and hopped in the pool. It was heaven! We swam and splashed and giggled and talked more in the pool.

After that we got the grand tour of the house (my favorite parts being the huge cedar lined costume closet, more like a costuming hallway really and the catering kitchen, seriously how cool is that?). Next up was the costumer give-away. That was really fun, several people brought stuff (including me). I picked up several nice lengths of fabric and got rid of most of what I'd brought. Loren, who happens to wear my size, was giving away shoes so I scored 5 pairs of seriously cute ones! *happy butt wiggle*

After we changed out of our suits we cleared the tea table and spread out the leftovers for dinner, which we ate by the pool watching fireflies dance over the lake. It really was like a little taste of paradise. We ended the evening by watching Marie Antoinette, which was much more entertaining with a room full of costumers. "Oh I want that hat!" "Me too!" To be honest I'm not sure how I stayed awake during the movie, I was so tired. I went to bed about 1am, the earliest night since Aubry arrived. Party animal.

The next morning we said our goodbyes and then headed back home, stopping to do some quick peach picking. I didn't want to say goodbye to Aubry, it had been such a wonderful visit. The only thing that made the leave taking tolerable is the fact that I will see her in 3 weeks at Costume College. *sigh*

The weekend was a nice little appetizer of CC and a good dose of inspiration and encouragement. I'm all motivated to finish up my costumes now - yay! Thanks again [livejournal.com profile] bauhausfrau for hosting this event - I can't wait for the next one! :>

That looks like so much fun! I LOVE the way your chemise dress came out. The color is just wonderful.

Thank you! I like it so much better now too. White is just not my color! :>

[identity profile] marcine.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the color looks great on you. And the green sash is a nice contrast. Glad to have met you! Thanks for sharing pictures. (I've alway wanted to picnic at Maymont in bustles or 1890s garb...maybe that can be a site for another gathering one day, perhaps in spring when it is a bit cooler...)

[identity profile] sadievale.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like a great idea! Victorian bustle gown is on my list to do, and a Maymont picnic in costume would be wonderful: we should plan that as one of our group gatherings for next year!

Thank you, I'm very pleased with it. It was lovely to meet you too! I hope this will be the first of many meetings.

We were talking about that when we were at Maymont. I think it's a cool idea, the spring sounds good. It will give me a chance to finish my first bustle frock. :P

It was lovely to see you again too, next time we must have more chance to chat though!

Yes, definitely! :-)

It looks so awesome! *sigh* I need to move to the East coast so I can hang out with you guys too. At least CC is coming up fast :o)

[identity profile] girliegirl32786.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! You do need to move to the East coast! WV sounds nice. ;)

[identity profile] gilded-garb.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My husband's requirement for moving to the East coast is that we move to a state that did NOT secede from the Union. I keep telling him that WV would be perfect! ;o)

[identity profile] girliegirl32786.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Totally perfect! I vote for Hurricane, but I would be happy with anything withing a 200 mile radius. Heck! 400! ;)

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes you do! At the very least come out for a visit... We definitely missed you, luckily CC is just around the corner!

[identity profile] murthandjoy.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally excellent! Looks like both had a great time!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh we all had fun! You should try and come down for one of these events and party with us!

[identity profile] suededsilk.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like everyone had fun and looked pretty! :) I'm totally jealous!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes we were trying to make you jealous. That was the real point. *hee hee*

I couldn't resist the iconing. *hee hee* It really recaps the weekend for me.

Thank goodness for CC huh! I can't wait to party with you again! (I need to sleep a lot before I come of course) I think we need more silly pics too. The posed are fun but it's the silly ones I love now. :>

The Chemise gowns were so beautiful together: that was my favorite of the group shots! It was such a great weekend, and you looked so beautiful: I love that dress, sash & hat combo on you: very flattering!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I like the re-vamp so much better. Sometimes you just have to make a dress a couple of times to get it right. :>

My friends list is so busy I only just now saw this post - doh!

I'm so glad you could come up, and bring Aubry and Stephanie to boot! You looked so lovely. Your gown was very nice the first time around but the color change really made it come alive.

It was such great fun I think we definitely have to start a trend...

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, it's why I linked to all the pics on my e-mail, it was a busy FL weekend!

Yes I brought my own party didn't I? It was great fun though, thank you again for all your hosptality! I hope this is a trend - it was way too fun to do just once! :>

Thanks again for the shoes and fabric too - I can't wait to wear/use them!
