pirate Jenny!

I decided to dress after all. Actually there were four of us dressed but I didn’t get any pics – silly Jenny! Actually it only occurred to me to take some pics right before I undressed and went to bed. I thought this outfit was too cute not to preserve for posterity, even if it was 4am and I'd left my hat in the car. It was comfy too, although it felt strange to be wearing my underpinnings on the outside! :> Fun but strange. I especially enjoyed not having to worry about everything being accurate. I reveled in my unperiod hair and jewelry. I am SO not a thread Nazi! *giggle*

As far as PotC2 went, I was disappointed. It was entertaining to be sure but was really just a long trailer for the third film. Nothing happened, just endless and convoluted set ups for the next film. Lots of action but little storyline. Much more violent as well. I liked Elizabeth’s dress though, a very pretty unbustled court mantua sort of thing... I want one!! :>

I’m taking a break from the Erté dress right now. Everything is cut except for the belt - can’t remember how wide I wanted to make it. :P I’ve basted the bodice and it’s lining together using the temp spray adhesive [livejournal.com profile] demode_kvc mentioned a while ago. So far it’s working like a charm. Anything that helps silk to behave in a more friendly manner is a good thing, right?!! :>

That's a really good way to describe it!

I like your piratey outfit!

Thanks!

Oooh, I like the not-fussed-about-accuracy Pirate Jenny look! I wish I'd worn my full pirate regalia, but after the run-in with shellac earlier in the day I was not up to anything more involved than putting a hat on.

Yeah, this PotC wasn't very strong on the plot. However, I did have fun in the theatre.

Thanks! The full pirate regalia can always be pulled out for next summer's film right? :>

Same here, no plot but a theater of slightly tired but wired and crazed fans is always fun! :>

Well...bummer that the movie wasn't all it should have been, but at least you looked super cute in your piratey garb!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts exactly! *hee hee* Thanks!

I love the pirate garb! Very, well, pirate-y. ;)

Arr! *giggle* Ta Luv!

Yay for basting spray!

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Truly brilliant stuff - thanks for the tip! :>

I love your outfit, and now I wish I'd foregone my jacket and just worn my stays, too!

Liz's dress confuses me. It looks like a jacket with stomacher over an open skirt over a petticoat.

I was very saddened by the portrayal of Jack. He was made to be very cowardly, and not very clever. I about fell on the sticky theater floor when they showed him rowing away from his Pearl. :(

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Aww, but I liked your jacket! Trés chic. :>

Nope, not a jacket but a version of a court manuta, like this one from the V&A:
late 18th century mantua (http://pics.livejournal.com/koshka_the_cat/pic/001380w9/g12)

[identity profile] justawench.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting! I've never seen a gown made like that (other than Liz's).

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a pretty obscure style, an old form of court dress. Not something your typical lass would wear, especially later in the century. :>

Cute pirate outfit! :) Eh, female pirates in dresses tend to be non-historically correct anyway.
The spray adhesive sounds like a great idea for underlining. I need to remember that.

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
The spray adhesive is great, especially for flat-lining. Thanks! :>

I like you as a pirate.! Very fetching.
