bedgown update

The bedgown will be finished on time. I had to stop and take a break to get matching thread so here is my update before the finial push. Despite the thread-fetching and two toiles, the bedgown is almost done. It's basically a kimono bodice so it has two seams, two cuffs and lots of hemming. Even with the toiling, I'm digging this servant attire thing for B! :>

I'm using a cheap *mostly* cotton from Wal-Mart so I'm having to finish all the edges. Just a quick glance and the fabric starts to ravel. If I were a dedicated costumer I should have French or felled the seams but instead I'm zig-zaging them to death. Cheater!!

And I don't feel a single pang of guilt either, isn't that terrible? :> Sewing ADD strikes again. *evil laugh* Okay, enough frivolity for the evening... back to work!

you shouldn't feel bad about zig zagging, i'm guessing you're sewing the seams by machine? so if you were being totally accurate you would sew the seams by hand and then oversew or whip over all the raw edges by hand, which i have seen on garments in museum stores, this way you're just doing them both by machine! (i like to justify my non-period techniques!)
