catching up
I’m taking a needed break from the banners at the moment. They have ended up being a marathon project, which I’m a bit bummed about. We literally have to finish the banners before bedtime tonight, so I can finish the edges tomorrow and move on to other projects. It’s a fun project – I wish I had time to enjoy it properly.
The last few days I’ve been running around doing non-sewing party prep (menu-making, shopping, working hours on CCF to pay for it all). I had handed the decoration making to B but she ended up needing my help to do the trees. They will look very cool at the party but can anyone say time consuming or pain in the butt?!!
I started work on the banners last night about 8pm. B was a great support, ironing, pinning and keeping me company. We got the linings all mounted and then began work on the motif. Our cardstock stencil patterns worked very well. We used silver sharpie pens to mark and refine the design. Then we began applying paint. Even Mom helped (she couldn’t sleep last night). I went to bed about 11:30pm. I’m not sure how much later the other two were up, not too late I think.
The next morning we continued on. Mom painted a little this morning but most of the day it was just B and I. We finished (including adding the glittered moon and sun) the large center banner about 1pm.
After the center banner was finished we began running into issues. First the markers gave out so B had to run to Walmart for more. Then I put the pattern on the second small banner on wrong. I’d just finished tracing the stencil pattern on when B discovered my mistake. *pouts*
The mistake would have meant that the banners were exactly the same, not reversed images. It was very tempting to say, oh well and carry on but I just couldn’t do it. If we were going to go through all the effort of painting the dratted things then I wanted them to be right. I had enough material left over to cut a second banner so we trashed the messed up one. I’m just praying I have enough fabric for the bindings now. *crosses fingers*
It’s amazing how the same amount of work that seemed do-able before an "issue", suddenly seems insurmountable. I started to feel my stress level rise to dangerous heights (not to mention another headache coming on), so that is why I am now taking a break. B is taking a break too (she's off to the gym with Daddy). I’m going to finish cooking dinner, tidy up my desk and the living room and then carry on with the banners.
I feel much better for my break though. It will be another late night but I’m starting to feel confident once more that we can meet the goal. Amazing what a little LJing can do… *sigh*
I do have pics to post but I’ll be posting them in a separate, locked entry. I want my LJ owning guests to have some surprises on Saturday too. *wink* For those of you not on my friends list, I am sorry, but you’ll have to wait until Sunday to peek. I’ll unlock the posts for y’all then… :>

Just remember to take deep breaths.
So, you're hiding everything, eh? *pouts* I suppose it's only fair since I'm hiding all pics of the Ophelia gown from you! MWHAHAHAHAHA!
Seriuosly though, don't kill yourself over this party. We want to have a happy, sane hostess! :)
