On the subject of corseting reed…

While I was running errands yesterday I popped into Michael’s to look for reeds. Of course, they don't carry anything but grasses. Pretty much what I expected. I'm going to check at the PM store next time I’m up there but I'm thinking I'll have to order online in the end.

Someone on S&S suggested Grannd Garb. Even though I have not been impressed with them in the past I looked at what they offer. They are more expensive than the rest and they charge a $15.00 minimum order. Ah huh. I then looked at NorEsta’s shipping and it’s ridiculously high in my opinion. It was going to be $11.00 for the order, and $10.00 for shipping. Is it just me, or does that seem a little out of whack? One of the reasons I wanted to try reeds was I assumed it would be a cheaper option (other reasons too obviously) – forget that! I think I’ve been spoilt by all the the easy, cheap and locally available hemp corsets I’ve made.

I’m thinking very seriously about going with cable ties or regiline instead. I had wanted really thin channels (I was going to get the 11/64 flat reeds), because I think they look super cool, like the stays in Fashion in Detail and Revolution in Fashion. I don’t think I can do that with the cable ties. Ack! This is turning out to be another “much harder to get the right supplies than I anticipated” garments. I hope this isn’t the case with everything about this ensemble.

*sigh* Remind me again why I bother with this costuming thing?
