For [ profile] koshka_the_cat... it's so true isn't it? *wink*

Things that made me happy - Dec 9
1. Val calling me for Google Map assistance. Who needs smart phones when you have friends!
2. Making my first ever snickerdoodles. They are for an event this weekend and next so I didn't bake them, just made up the dough, scooped it, rolled it and froze it so I can quickly throw them in the oven when I need them. That is the one thing I really like about cookies, so easy to prep ahead!
3. Clean upstairs floors. It took a lot of scrubbing and elbow grease (I hurt this morning!) but the kitchen in particular was sparkling when I went to bed. It's silly how good a clean kitchen floor makes me feel!

Things that made me happy - Dec 8
1. My lively Bible Study discussion with Bridget. I love how similar but different we are. It makes for such a good "small group"!
2. Making my first ever Gingerbread cake. I'm dying to taste it but it's supposed to sit for a day or so for al the flavors to meld. It was so hard to wrap it up last night without a nibble!
3. Finding Nefret all snuggled up in the order that arrived yesterday. So cute!

Things that made me happy - Dec 7
1. The glow of Christmas tree lights. The one nice thing about gloomy days this time of year.
2. My dinner without a recipe turning out quite tasty. Chicken, mushrooms, Madeira and demi-glaze, it's hard to go too wrong!
3. Finishing everything on my day's to-do list.

Things that made me happy - Dec 5-6
1. My headache stayed a headache. (no migraine - yay!)
2. Spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Mom usually makes a meat sauce rather than meatballs so they made a nice change.
3. Planning my holiday baking and cooking. Yum!
1. Our low-key but very fun Christmas party at Scrapbook Fellowship. Sometimes low-key is more fun.
2. Chick-fil-a nuggets for lunch. Yum!
3. Mary Kay Product Preview. I had fun helping to set up and getting to try all the new goodies. The new lip glosses are awesome (finally some red glosses!) and I can't wait to properly try the soothing mask.
4. My Heston's Fantastical Feasts book arriving in the mail. Now if I can just finish reading it before Dad steals it... :>

Things that made me happy yesterday: - Dec 4
1. My body waking me up in good time to get ready for church. I hate both waking up to an alarm and rushing around on a Sunday morning so it was a nice way to start the day.
2. Finding c1912 pretties on Pinterest. The hassle was totally worth it.
3. A smooth fitting and nice chat with T. The only thing missing was tea. :>
4. The extended chat with Bridget. She is always highly entertaining after a 5 hour test. Hee.

Yes I have pic of the tea on Saturday, I just haven't quite had the time to post them. hopefully I'll have a chance to do it tonight.

Things that made me happy yesterday: - Dec 3
1. Getting all dolled up in my new favorite 18th century outfit and having a delightful tea with costuming friends in Annapolis.
2. Buying a Baby Lit Pride & Prejudice book for Monkey for Christmas. Is it bad that I got one for me too? :>
3. Seeing Mom's anniversary gift of a 1916 singer treadle sewing machine. They found it antiquing in Williamsburg today, a lovely thing in great condition (it had been fully restored/refurbished in 2006) for a great price. So jealous!

I don't know that it belongs in the "happy" category since it was a bit of a pain and I'm finding it less user friendly than I wanted but I did get a Pinterest account.

I decided to get over the fact that they require you to sign up thru either Twitter or Facebook. I've never had a Twitter and recently deleted my FB so I created a Twitter account which I immediately unconnected from my Pinterest. Take that Pinterest! Really the whole thing is so silly.

Also under the less-than-thrilled-with category is the fact that when you sign up for Pinterest they automatically give you random boards in your "following" section and make it super confusing to get rid of them. (You have to click on the user, then click the "follow" button, which un-follows you - seriously what idiot designed that!)

You'll find my Pinterest here if you want to follow. I've really enjoyed how Jen has been using hers to document historical garments and plan to use mine likewise. I'm also really bad about documenting where I got images from so I'm hoping this will help. I may end up with some random things there too, we'll see.

Things that made me happy yesterday: - Dec 2
1. Having the house to myself for the day. :>
2. Listening to a new audio book while I sew. I love Harry Potter but I have read them lots of times...
3. A clean kitchen. It looked much worse than it was so minimal effort for maximum results. My kind of housework! :>

And a random note, does anyone have a pinterest invite I could use?

As many of you know I have a love-hate relationship with December. I love the festiveness of the season, the special music, the smells, the special foodie treats and the excuse for good times with loved ones. I hate the chaos, overwelming materialism and craziness that comes with it.

My personal antidote is Happy Month. I post everyday with at least three things that made me happy the previous day. It's a bit Pollyanna I know but having done it for several years now it really does help me focus on the important people/things in my life and better withstand the effects of Dec madness. So here we go:

Things that made me happy yesterday: - Dec 1
1. Mom & Dad's 33rd wedding anniversary. :>
2. A day of antique store shopping with the parents - fun times and great finds!
3. Chocolate cake & fresh stout for dessert.

In happy news today...

I'm finished spring cleaning - yay! This is the first year I've done it on my own and man is this house big! So worth the effort though, nothing like a deeply cleaned house. My top spring cleaning tips?
1. Don Aslett products are your friend - orange cleaner is my new hero.
2. Squeegees make window and mirror washing almost enjoyable.
3. When you get tired or discouraged and need some motivation watch Gray Gardens or Great Expectations. :P

I finished my Titanic corset remake today - yay! So good to clear something out of the pending pile!

Also my tiara arrived today - yay!! It's so sparkly and gorgeous, I haven't taken it off since it arrived. Life really is better with sparkle.

Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Discovering Air 1 online Christmas station.

2. Surving the visit with the granpartents.

3. Coming home to a warm house, pjs, chocolate mousse and a Poirot episode I'd never seen before.
jennylafleur: (retro)
Things that made me happy on Tuesday & Wednesday:

1. A quiet day on vacation. Truly the best sort of vacation.

2. More cheese, pate, bread and card games with the family.

3. A fabulous meal at Dudley's Farmhouse of Bourbon braised pork belly served over creamy grits and caramelized onions, antelope chops with wild mushroom risotto plus French foie gras with caramelized apples, bourbon soaked raisins, and a savory maple cream for dessert. Wow! There was also much passing of plates, laughter and glitter eye shadow worn - happy holidays indeed!

4. Catching up with a dear friend.

5. Christmas surprises - game on! *giggle*

6. News that [ profile] gilded_garb has her tickets for Jan - YAY!

7. Jamaican food for dinner.

8. Sleeping in my own bed again.
jennylafleur: (pouf)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Getting the house back to normal. (last of the Open house dishes, furniture, bins and product put away - yay!)

2. A lovely and unexpected cup of tea with friends.

3. Singing "Come Holy Spirit" with Joe at church. I love that song.
jennylafleur: (Default)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Getting caught up with MK paperwork.

2. Wearing my red velvet hat to the MK Christmas party.

3. All the compliments on the food I brought to the party's potluck - I didn't come home with any leftovers!
jennylafleur: (holiday)
Please excuse my tardiness with the happys - it's been a crazy couple of days!

Things that made me happy the last few days:

1. Mom and Dad are home! Living alone sucks!!!!!

2. Scrubbing my bathroom floor. Not a fun job but oh so satisfying when I was finished - it really needed it.

3. More baking! One dud recipe and one stunning winner... not bad.

4. Compliments on my hair, including being asked if I'd had it styled at a salon. Very amusing since it only took me 6 minutes to do. I love pin curls!

5. My Open House! The atmosphere was just what I wanted, homey and welcoming. People came and stayed long after they shopped - yay!

6. Waking up to ½" of snow on the ground. It hung around just long enough to be pretty then melted away, the best sort of snow.

7. Rocking out to Christmas music everywhere I go.

8. Sorting out the family photos to put in Dad's office - whew that was quite a job!

9. Dad keeping me company while I did the dishes.
jennylafleur: (nefret)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Companionship and help with my Open House prep from dear friends.
2. Showing my Christmas tree to Monkey. She was fascinated.
3. Watching Lord Peter Whimsey on YouTube.
4. Feeling not-sickly. Looks like it was just a 48 hour bug - yay!
jennylafleur: (pp)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Homemade leek & potato soup for dinner. It is supposed to be for the open house but it was too tasty not have for dinner too. *eyes dish for lunch* yeah I may have to make some more for the weekend...
jennylafleur: (Default)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. The ‘fridge smelling like cheesecake. (I'd left the tray of mini cheesecakes in there overnight to chill). It was a lovely thing to wake up to!

2. The sight of the AAA truck after waiting in the cold on the porch for an hour last night. (I managed to lock myself out of the house and the car at the same time so I called them to open my car - brrr it was cold!)

3. Mary Kay product preview! Which despite being over an hour late was great fun. So excited about the regular line cream eye shadows and cream cheek colors!
jennylafleur: (georgian hat)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Baking all day - I haven't done that in forever!
2. Rows and rows of perfectly scooped cookie dough. (I pre-scooped then froze the dough so I can more easy make fresh cookies during my open house.
3. The lone can of ginger ale I found in the back of the pantry - a very nice treat!
jennylafleur: (holiday)
Things that made me happy yesterday:

1. Singing really old Maranatha songs at church.
2. Taking a nap. This is what Sundays are for, right?
3. The large, rather unkempt man walking out of Wal-Mart covered in fine red glitter. He probably didn’t even know it was on him but it was really twinkling in the midday sun. Based on the Christmas tree in his cart I'd say something in the Christmas section attacked him - it was so incongruous I had to giggle!

Makes me wonder how many times I walk out of a store covered in stowaway glitter...

Oh and of course I will post my finial cranberry soup recipe when I've finished tweaking it. The last batch was pretty good but there are still a couple of things I want to tweak so I'll be doing more experimenting today - wish me luck!
